Collect your water sample
Accurate testing starts with a clean, fresh sample.
- Use a clean container with no food residue or leftover chemicals
- Scoop from about elbow depth, away from jets and skimmers
- Bring it in soon after you collect it, fresh samples test truest

Keep it crystal clear
Regular testing is the cheapest insurance your pool has.
- Test weekly in summer, every other week in cooler months
- Bring a sample any time the water looks cloudy or just off
- Stick to the plan and the water stays sparkling
When is it safe to swim?
Timing depends on your current levels and what was added. These are general guidelines, your printed plan will include timing specific to your pool.
After shocking
Wait until free chlorine drops below 5 ppm, usually 8 to 24 hours depending on dose and sunlight.
After algaecide
Most are swim-safe within 15 to 30 minutes once fully circulated. Check the label.
After adjusting pH
Wait 30 minutes with the pump running, then retest. Swim once pH reads 7.2 to 7.6.
After stabilizer
Allow 24 hours of circulation before retesting. Safe once fully dissolved.
After clarifier
Swim-safe almost immediately. Run the filter at least 8 hours so it can work.
After salt addition
Wait until dissolved and circulated at least 24 hours. Test salinity before swimming.
